Friends,

This is a reprint from my very old website before I upgraded to the one I have now. It is part of a series of blog posts that I published a long time ago. Enjoy! – Jacqueline

“How Much Does It Cost?”

I received a telephone call the other day from a female who was given my number by a respected candle shop owner in the area and one of the first concerns that she voiced was cost. Understanding that monetary concerns were probably a daily issue, I first asked her if she had access to the Internet so that she could read more about me. Alas, she did not. I frequently refer callers to my website to read about who I am and what I do. Many times the written word is retained better than the spoken word and is one reason that when I do a telephone consultation, I send a written report of the reading for the caller to re-read at their leisure.

Last week, I turned on the television to listen to while doing some daily chores and tuned into the “Armstrong & Getty” Radio Show that was being simulcast on a local television station. The topic at the moment was a well-known psychic who is on a syndicated talk show every Wednesday and has written numerous books. She apparently had been in contact with the parents of a missing child, who recently was found. The fallout of her meeting with the parents and the ensuing turn of events did not set her in a positive light with Armstrong & Getty. I had to call in and give my yeas and nays about the topic.

I first voiced my opinion about the rising cost of an appointment with this psychic to the stars, since I have been a fan of her since 1991, when I first saw her on television. I questioned the validity of a good reading becoming better with increased costs to the client. I told the radio guys that cost was something I “futzed” (worried about) with all the time. In my teachings I have been told that if I were to seek to gain financially from Tarot, the gift will go away and I have sincerely prayed that this be true. However, to counter that, I have been blessed with a fulfilling career and that remains the source of my sustenance.

I then told Armstrong and Getty that there are those of us who do have a gift, and that good readers do not have to be so expensive. I related a story of a client who had previously visited a local shop that offered a reading for $10.00 and she had walked out $100.00 poorer. This type of people prey on the emotionally or financially disadvantaged who are seeking answers or solace. We briefly talked about signs to look for when a client might need medical or professional help and my sincerity must have come through because one of the radio guys said that her liked me since I truly believed I had a gift and I had ethics. What an affirmation to get!

I always ask the client to take time and consider a reading from any reader and I have actually referred a few to others when I truly cannot help them, as in the case of one young lady who asked if I can channel the departed. If I were unscrupulous, I would take her money and pry a name out of her and a few facts and concoct a tale for her. As in the female in the beginning of this post, I explained what I do, what I charge and to take time to read about me and other readers before sitting down for a consultation.

Caveat Emptor.

Some Thoughts Regarding 1-800-Psychic Readings to Consider

Tarot by Jacqueline, Elk Grove, CA

I want to address readers who work for what is termed “Psychic Networks”. Newspapers, magazines and the Internet are the usual means of advertisement for telemarketing firms that offer readings of various types. Some are “sponsored” by the rich and famous, like Dionne Warwick, LaToya Jackson and Mother Love, who receive royalties for lending their images or “testimonials” to the advertising campaign. These stars are being paid royalties on their images from your pocketbook while you are getting that 1-800-psychicstuff reading!

There are a few facts about telemarketing “psychic readers” that you should know:

1. Many of the most popular and most advertised “psychic readers” networks are owned and operated by attorneys and professional
marketing consultants. The basis for their business is about advertising, marketing and potential lawsuits. The clients who call their many different psychic networks are only a source of money for them. More deeper than that, they are the ones who orchestrate the type of reading you will receive when you consult one of their “psychics” when you are heartbroken, confused, miserable or down on your luck.

2. The tag line, “for entertainment purposes only” is a method of defense in the event that a client challenges them with a lawsuit about the advice they received from the company’s employees. It is a good idea to have it on your site, as I do, to caution children who call without their parent or guardian wanting them to do so. One someone reaches the age of majority (in mosts states it is age 18), then the young person can call to get a psychic or tarot reading without upsetting the folks.

3. The “psychics readers” that you contact from these companies work in call centers or from their home after your call has been re-routed to their personal phone line. These employees are given a chance to do a “sample” reading for the employer, who is listening to their ability to use language flush with explanations to entice the caller to stay on the line a long time and to lose track of minutes used. Many times, the “psychic” will give confusing information on the “reading”, which prompts the caller to ask many questions for clarity and uses up minutes. Remember, the caller is billed from the moment the call is first answered, despite some callers being put “on hold” while the caller is “being connected”. All the while, soothing music and a caring female voice is telling the caller that “your reading will be honest and truthful by our professional readers”. Then, you wait…and wait…and wait, all the while racking up minutes!

4. Most telephone “psychic readers” are paid between $10.00 and $15.00 an hour and only when they are doing readings on the telephone. While the “psychic” is waiting on a call, they are not being paid. Remember, the caller is paying $1.99 to $3.99 a minute for their reading. Spend 30 minutes on the telephone and you may be paying $59.00 to $120.00 for that time spent with that reader. Who is getting paid? The networks, of course. Let’s not forget the stars for their images as well.

I am giving you some idea about how these companies work and to see what is the real motive for advertising psychic services. The bottom line is that these companies are out to make money so if you are fortunate to get a good reader on the phone, your reading is geared to extract the most money out of your wallet that they possibly can.

In closing, please consider staying away from telemarketing “psychic” companies unless you have a direct referral from a satisfied client who gave you a specific reader to consider for your reading. Otherwise, you a calling a stranger who is primed to take your money and may not have any experience at all. If fact, with my services that I give, my readings run well over the time paid for by the client because I want them to go away from the reading with a sense of satisfaction that their questions were answered.

Tarot by Jacqueline | “Yes” and “No” answers with Obi Divination

Obi Divination Eijife

The divination system known as Obi divination have been around for centuries and may come with slight variations, but the main meaning remains the same. Here is a reprint of an article I submitted to www.ezine.com earlier this year. – J.

“Ago Obi, Ago Obi, Ago Obi”

“Ago Obi”
The prayers begin for Obi, the system of divination from the Yoruba religion to obtain “Yes” and “No” answers to questions in various levels of intensity and meaning. This system, crucial to all in the African religious concepts under the major heading of Ifa and their various levels of dilution under the categories of Lukumi and Santeria, are a methodology of the ways Nigerian kola nuts (Obi Abata), fresh coconut meat (darle el coco) and four cowrie shells speak to us and are considered the ‘mouthpieces’ of the Orichas. The Orichas, as they are collectively known, are African based Gods and Goddesses of Nature who rule various places and elements of the World and are considered ‘guardian angels’ of each and everyone who inhabits the Earth. Each and every one of us is considered having that particular Deities’ “Ache” or “Spirit” and it is within the patakis, or stories of the Orichas’ interactions with each other and the World that the message is delivered.
Obi’s spirit, once mortal, ascended to being an Oricha once good deeds had been done, fell from Grace because of Ego. Upon descending to Earth, Obi’s spirit embodied the coconut palm tree.  Although Obi cannot speak with his tongue, he communicates through the white (“clean”) side or brown (“dark”) of coconut meat. If cowrie shells are used, it is the side that has been filed open to indicate “Yes” (“clean”) and the closed ridged side that indicates a “No” (“dark”) side of the answer pattern that fell during questioning.
After prayers, I utilize Obi divination with cowrie shells to answer questions during a card reading using the Tarot of the Orichas.  Obi gives clarity to questions regarding messages of the cards to a client. Clients can ask Obi a question and I may also be prompted to ask as well when the layers of cards upon themselves are not in association with the clients’ dilemma.  Obi, not to be taken lightly, is regarded as a tool to help Mankind seek clarity in decision making, regardless of whether you are fully initiated into the religion or not. There are 5 levels to Obi; two affirmative or positive in different severities, two negative or “no” answers, and  a “maybe” answer that  needs a second question to extract a less ambiguous answer.
The five different shell patterns that will fall during a questioning session are as follows:
“Alafia” – “Yes with blessings!” – The most affirmative answer,  it can be over eager in delivery and must have a second toss to confirm and secure the answer. The second fall of the cowries must be another “Alafia” or “Ejife” or “Etagua” answer to be taken as a “Yes” answer.
“Ejife” – “Yes” (but without emphasis) – This affirmative answer is interpreted as a “Yes, and your World is balanced”, meaning what you have proposed or achieved (or about to) brings balance to the contradictory struggles of the World to keep in harmony.
“Etagua” (or “Etawa”) – “Maybe” – This answer comes when the question needs clarification (posing it in a way to obtain a “Yes” or “No” answer) or Oricha is pondering the situation and needs a second question to be able to answer. When Etagua appears, the second answer of the second toss of shells is the true answer. If another “Etagua” (Etagua-Meji) falls after the first one, the meaning is “do not ask what you already know”.
“Okana” – meaning darkness is surrounding the client and a positive outcome is not available, perhaps without additional spiritual work. One open shell and three closed ones indicate to focus on the small beam of light in darkness.
“Oyekun” – The most serious “No” answer, it tells of being out of touch with spirituality and walking in darkness. A dire warning; it presages unforeseen problems, accidents, fires and even portends death.  Additional questions need to be asked in the clients’ behalf to determine why Oyekun has come. Water must be sprinkled on Oyekun and if it appears more than once, the shells must be placed in water to ‘cool’ down the answer.
After the reading with me, the client has an opportunity to ask questions that were not addressed in the card reading. These may be additional clarity on the original shell toss or other unrelated questions on relationships and business strategies. Once we begin to receive multiple “Etaguas” to questions in an obvious pattern, this indicates that the line of questioning needs to end as the client is asking questions to obvious answers they are facing.
While not always an immediate answer, Obi gives insight on things to come. Clients who return for a follow up reading three months later will exclaim, “The shells were right! I just didn’t see it (the situation) evolving before me!” and other affirmations that indicate that revelations of Truth that Obi gives come true. For me, as well as over 70 million plus devotees of this African indigenous religion, we know Obi does not lie.
