Tarot by Jacqueline | When is it Time for Spiritual Work or Reading?

Tarot by Jacqueline, Elk Grove, CA

One question I get often from people is in regards to the frequency of readings. One of my queries I ask when beginning a reading for a client is if they have ever had a tarot card reading and consultation or when was the last time they had a reading. My intentions are good; for the first time before the tarot deck, I want to give them a little historical and cultural background on what to expect at a reading. For those who have had a reading, I ask because if they just recently had a reading and perhaps a subsequent consultation on spell work, I wish for a good time allotment in order to see if the candles that were burned worked, or if they need to finish working with the prior spiritual consultant or reader.

I also screen for “psychic junkies”. These are poor souls who spend a great amount of money going from psychic to intuitive reader to tarot card consultations hoping to find one that ‘gets it right’ – meaning to validate their own feelings and tell them what they want to hear. A good reader does not give you “lip service”, but actually advises you when the pursuit of an idea or another individual will cause more harm than good.

Once the indications that these two portions of the appointment has been clear, the client gets a reading. The question of frequency of candle work or return visits are asked by me through Obi divination, an African-based methodology of divination using cowrie shells (coconut shells in actual ritual), so that we are absolutely clear on what strategies to undertake to create change to the situation to make it positive. Sometimes however, individuals need to know the warning signs of the need for a consultation, tarot reading or spiritual work. Here is a list of some signs:

This is what to look for as indications of need of a reading or spiritual work:

When things start to break - This is not just you dropping things, but when glasses seem to ‘pop’ in your hand and you are using a regular pressure on holding it and the glass is not cracked to begin with. Also, plates “jump” out of your hand, especially when food is on them. This is an indication that an offering is due.

When everything starts to fall apart at once - I’m talking about the brakes on the car, the engine, the lock on the front door, the purse or wallet gets snatched or lost, the dog bites everyone or it just is beginning to feel like everything is breaking down and falling apart all round you. This is time to get a reading and determine what happened or who has it out for you.

When everyone is fighting and arguing with you - This indicates that someone is trying to cause a break up or discord on your family. Time to determine who ‘jinxed’ you and throw it back at them.

When you just know everyone is whispering behind your back- This is a no brainer – you have indicators on your body when something is amiss. Your hair stand on end either at the nape of your neck or on your arms or you just feel like you got to go bathe after someone has left your presence. That is ‘spiritual funk’ and it just latched itself onto you.

When you receive a raise, a settlement, win at the casino, get married, get something or other ‘big good thing’ – Believe it or not, sometimes your best enemies are your neighbors, co-workers and family members who cannot Bless You for getting what you deserve. They ‘move their jaw’ about that you have and what THEY don’t have – despite you having to work long and hard or suffer as a result of it.  These types of people cannot look at you and see you as an inspiration to get up off their duff and work hard like you. No, they would rather grab you by the ankle and bring you down to their ladder rung because climbing the Ladder of Success is too hard to do. Your success ‘show them up’ that they are taking life too easy and reaping their rewards while you work hard and reap yours. This be about the time things start going ‘bad’ and it is time to do some spiritual work.

When you receive a strange package or find something spilled outside your doorstep or smeared on your desk or car door handle - These signs mean that someone is trying to jinx or ‘cross you up’. Time for some Fiery Wall of Protection Candles.

When you are just ‘not feelin’ right’ or acting “tipsy” - If you are relatively in good health and have no problematic health issues, you might have had something thrown down in your path so you walk over and in it to ‘cross up’, ‘jinx’ or bring misfortune on you. Again, time for some psychic detective work and find out who is doing this to you and why.

Tarot by Jacqueline | On being Clairsentient and Clairaudient

Tarot by Jacqueline, Elk Grove, CA

Having special gifts are truly a blessing…for the most part. The Powers that Be, sometimes known as “God” or any of the other titles held, gives us these gifts when we are young. It is only the ‘Prove it to me’ attitude of the World that makes us a little jaded and unbelieving and we begin to close off these portals of information; becoming one of those who rely on the scientific realm or begin asking for the tangible results.

But what about those days when you just want to run into the market to grab a few things and the cosmic neon sign is on, blinking AND playing a message over the astral loudspeaker? Then the lady in line in front of you turns around and proceeds to give you a one minute update on her life – vocally, while you are getting other information through the back of your head. This is sometimes what I experience as a clairaudient and clairsentient.

I must have been a precocious child, as I can recall my Mother trying to ‘shhh’ me when I would put my wonderings to words and say things outloud that I was working on in my head. Like the time I went to Houston and I, coming from a predominantly Caucasian part of California, wondered outloud about the many African-Americans that were around me. How interesting that later in my life, I would practice an indiginous nature-based religious belief that came over during the Diaspora. I am sure now that I must have caused embarassment for my Mother on more than once occasion.

Being clairaudient and clairsentient is sometimes a challenge to own these gifts. Like the the time in the vestible of my Catholic church at the time when I was being told something by an elder in the congregation, and a young male voice (I am presuming that it is St. Michael, my favorite angel) whispered in my left ear that it was a lie and I almost choked on my mint. Another time, while leisurely strolling the pasta aisle of a nearby supermarket, I could hear a buzz or hum coming towards me, like when you are in the country late at night and you can hear a car approaching from the distance and the noise grows louder are it gets nearer. I turned my head to see a man who could have stepped right out of Woodstock approaching my basket. His eyes were intent in a stare on me and when he whooshed past me, I could hear the works, “rape you’, blow past me like the wind. I stopped and blinked, turned around, and he was gone!

Another dilemma that I face is clairsentiency, the ability to feel sensations on my body that are indicating something with the other person. For instance, when doing a tarot card reading for someone is when they are not telling the truth, or at least, not telling me how bad it is. How do you manouver around that the messages radiating from them are like the wind blasting me from the front, but they are saying “No’ and the sensation of stomach. They are holding back because the ‘secret’ is out.

A few years back, I went with an aquaintance to a night with a psychic. The room was packed and my friend had to sit alone a couple of rows in front of me. I was readjusting my posture in the chair as I felt that something was grabbing my left shoulder and pulling me down towards the floor. I also had the sensation of uncomfortable heat, as if I was in front of a large roaring fireplace my left. After the psychic’s talk, she went around the room giving each an opportunity cramping starts in my body. When it was my turn, I instead asked her to ‘help me’ with this situation. The psychic told the audience that I was picking up the problems of the lady sitting to my left. She asked me what was the sensations I was feeling, then asked to lady what was affecting her on the left side of her body. The lady told the psychic that she has arthritis that is ‘flaring up’ and she is in pain on her left side. The psychic, myself and the whole room then joined together to send her healing on the afflicted side. After a bit, the psychic came back to me and asked how the sensation was. I told her the heat was not at a temperature I could handle and the pulling down of my shoulder had lessened. There are other times that I ‘take on’ a clients’ pain while doing a reading, and then give them alternative and natural remedies they might want to try at home. While I am not a doctor nor do I practice medicine, I tell people to do the research into healthy herbs and spices that will help in their situation.

I know that I was given these gifts to assist people that need guidance and I thank the Heavens, Saints and Angels every day that I have these abilities to help others. I always ask that if the messages I receive become ‘bunk’ or not true anymore, I would then close these portals of information and insight and become a muggle. Thank goodness so far, this has not happened.

Tarot by Jacqueline | How to Find a Good Reader or Worker

Tarot by Jacqueline, Elk Grove, CA

Spiritual workers known as psychics, gifted readers, seers, root workers, wise women called “Sister” or “Mother” or medicine men using the title “Dr.” have been in existence forever. Some use divination items such as tarot cards, crystal balls, pendulums bones, cowrie shells, glass or bowl of water, gemstones, or other items. Not use tools but all do nor does the fact that these readers use or not use these tools have any effect on their talents and accuracy as a spiritual consultant.

Most of these readers do not use astrological calculations or stargazing as a manner of divination as well. It is only since the 1960’s that the popularity of astrology that welcomed in the “New Age” that allowed acceptance in these readers who in older times were just known by word of mouth and miracles revealed. These were people that everyone knew about, such as Miz Sally, who lived on First Street in the blue house or Dr. Frank who you can find out on Highway 60 just past the Nehi Soda Pop road sign on the left.

Those who are deemed as “gifted’ readers are traditionally known as being born with a caul or thin covering of skin over the face, but this is not true in all cases. I have heard that it is also sometimes because of a difficult birth, with either some problems for the mother or the infant being born, such as a “blue baby”. In my own family, as well as others, it is a gender line or ‘all the women in the Mother’s side of the family’. Sometimes, the ‘gift’ skips generations, as it does in my family. These readers do not use tools, as all they need to do is look at you. Some will use tools as well, to divert your attention so that they can get a true “background” reading of the situation. Some may want to touch your hand or hold something that belongs to you like a ring, watch or a photo, but as a whole, they do not need divinatory tools. In times past, females with this ability were labeled “fortune tellers” even though they were “Sisters” of a Spiritualist Church.

For the most part, there are a few methods of spiritual work that a spiritual worker will do for clients such as candle burning (or “setting lights”), praying over you, giving your feet a ‘spiritual washing’, anointing you will oil in prayer, performing spell work on others for you, and making good luck charms and mojo bags. Some workers specialize in one or two things and some do all. The workers who do spell work for clients are divided by categories: good luck workers, revenge workers, love work (sometimes known as ‘lady hearted’ if they have a majority of female clients with lover problems) and those who “jinx” or” lay tricks” for the clients’ behalf. Some workers sway one way or the other; some “walk the fence line” and do both good and bad spell casting. As a majority, these workers will perform good works to bring about love and prosperity blessings to the client than to do revenge work because of the circumstances it could bring with retribution and reversal or works.

More importantly, it is hard to find someone who you can trust for readings and spiritual work when needed. Your biggest challenge will be looking for someone who is fair, honest and affordable. Matching your needs to a workers’ specialty may be your biggest challenge. Many clients ask for a “mini reading” so that they can get a ‘feel’ for the person. I myself will do a 20 minute reading for someone who is just a little ‘curious’ without getting into a long conversation with me or a full blown reading. Here are some tips and things to consider when looking for a good reader.

To determine the cost of a reading, ask these questions to the person you are considering:

1. If the person is a conjure or root worker, do they give free readings? (This meaning that they ‘discuss’ your situation and may use a pendulum, but does not give a full blown tarot reading, which usually is a charge)

2. If the reading is not free, what is the cost? Is it priced accordingly and how long is the reading? Is this clearly stated in their website or in the early parts of the conversation?

3. If the person is going to burn candles for you, is the price quoted for supplies alone? (Many workers will sell you the products, but will incude a ‘service fee’ for their time and energy if they perform the spell for you) What ministering or care does the worker do for your candle? Is there a follow-up report on the events of the candle burn?

4. If spell work or a trick is to be laid on your behalf, is the price fair? Will you receive a follow up report on the spells’ success?

5. If a mojo bag or lucky charm is to be constructed for you, what is in it and how is it made? Is the price fair? Will you receive complete instructions? Can you have a follow up visit to make sure you covered all your instructions? Is there a “fix it” fee, if the mojo bag wears out (they sometimes do when carried in a a pocket of work pants or blue jeans).

By asking yourself these questions, you will determine if the worker you are considering is valuable for you. This will eliminate the “psychic gypsies” fraud scams that seem to be on a street corner in every major city who are very territorial and will get you for every dime you have without any remorse.

Tarot by Jacqueline | The Empress Card

EMPRESS CARD

Traditionally entitled “Empress,” this major arcana or “trump” card portrays the energy of the Great Mother. She is Nature, around us and within us, an always unfolding Source of Power that gives life. She is sometimes protrayed as a pre-Christian Goddess, as the one whom the High Priestess is channeling down to earth for the rest of us.

In medieval Europe, the Empress card was painted to represent whatever Queen currently ruled the land, depending on region or country and it has been indicated that it was to satisfy the Inquisitors. But Renaissance scholars had no doubt of her true identity, although she could not be fully revealed on Tarot cards as the “woman clothed with the sun” until after the French Revolution. In early Christianity, the Virgin Mary was referred to as “the woman clothed in the Sun”

This archetype of femininity also symbolizes fertility. She is the one who provides us nourishment and security. She is the Protectress of the Hearth. She is sometimes seen as offering us flowers and fruit. A potentially terrifying aspect of this archetype manifests itself whenever karmic mood swings wipe out our plans, like a storm that has come upon us. Whatever happens, the Empress is the Source of our Embodiment and of Natural Law. She might even be called “the Great Upheaval”, as she tosses everything about and ‘cleans house’, getting rid of that we no longer need and reusing it somewhere else.

Tarot by Jacqueline | Reprint “How Much Does It Cost?”

Tarot by Jacqueline, Elk Grove, CA

Friends,

This is a reprint from my very old website before I upgraded to the one I have now. It is part of a series of blog posts that I published a long time ago. Enjoy! – Jacqueline

01/28/07

“How Much Does It Cost?”

I received a telephone call the other day from a female who was given my number by a respected candle shop owner in the area and one of the first concerns that she voiced was cost. Understanding that monetary concerns were probably a daily issue, I first asked her if she had access to the Internet so that she could read more about me. Alas, she did not. I frequently refer callers to my website to read about who I am and what I do. Many times the written word is retained better than the spoken word and is one reason that when I do a telephone consultation, I send a written report of the reading for the caller to re-read at their leisure.

Last week, I turned on the television to listen to while doing some daily chores and tuned into the “Armstrong & Getty” Radio Show that was being simulcast on a local television station. The topic at the moment was a well-known psychic who is on a syndicated talk show every Wednesday and has written numerous books. She apparently had been in contact with the parents of a missing child, who recently was found. The fallout of her meeting with the parents and the ensuing turn of events did not set her in a positive light with Armstrong & Getty. I had to call in and give my yeas and nays about the topic.

I first voiced my opinion about the rising cost of an appointment with this psychic to the stars, since I have been a fan of her since 1991, when I first saw her on television. I questioned the validity of a good reading becoming better with increased costs to the client. I told the radio guys that cost was something I “futzed” (worried about) with all the time. In my teachings I have been told that if I were to seek to gain financially from Tarot, the gift will go away and I have sincerely prayed that this be true. However, to counter that, I have been blessed with a fulfilling career and that remains the source of my sustenance.

I then told Armstrong and Getty that there are those of us who do have a gift, and that good readers do not have to be so expensive. I related a story of a client who had previously visited a local shop that offered a reading for $10.00 and she had walked out $100.00 poorer. This type of people prey on the emotionally or financially disadvantaged who are seeking answers or solace. We briefly talked about signs to look for when a client might need medical or professional help and my sincerity must have come through because one of the radio guys said that her liked me since I truly believed I had a gift and I had ethics. What an affirmation to get!

I always ask the client to take time and consider a reading from any reader and I have actually referred a few to others when I truly cannot help them, as in the case of one young lady who asked if I can channel the departed. If I were unscrupulous, I would take her money and pry a name out of her and a few facts and concoct a tale for her. As in the female in the beginning of this post, I explained what I do, what I charge and to take time to read about me and other readers before sitting down for a consultation.

Caveat Emptor.

Some Thoughts Regarding 1-800-Psychic Readings to Consider

Tarot by Jacqueline, Elk Grove, CA

I want to address readers who work for what is termed “Psychic Networks”. Newspapers, magazines and the Internet are the usual means of advertisement for telemarketing firms that offer readings of various types. Some are “sponsored” by the rich and famous, like Dionne Warwick, LaToya Jackson and Mother Love, who receive royalties for lending their images or “testimonials” to the advertising campaign. These stars are being paid royalties on their images from your pocketbook while you are getting that 1-800-psychicstuff reading!

There are a few facts about telemarketing “psychic readers” that you should know:

1. Many of the most popular and most advertised “psychic readers” networks are owned and operated by attorneys and professional
marketing consultants. The basis for their business is about advertising, marketing and potential lawsuits. The clients who call their many different psychic networks are only a source of money for them. More deeper than that, they are the ones who orchestrate the type of reading you will receive when you consult one of their “psychics” when you are heartbroken, confused, miserable or down on your luck.

2. The tag line, “for entertainment purposes only” is a method of defense in the event that a client challenges them with a lawsuit about the advice they received from the company’s employees. It is a good idea to have it on your site, as I do, to caution children who call without their parent or guardian wanting them to do so. One someone reaches the age of majority (in mosts states it is age 18), then the young person can call to get a psychic or tarot reading without upsetting the folks.

3. The “psychics readers” that you contact from these companies work in call centers or from their home after your call has been re-routed to their personal phone line. These employees are given a chance to do a “sample” reading for the employer, who is listening to their ability to use language flush with explanations to entice the caller to stay on the line a long time and to lose track of minutes used. Many times, the “psychic” will give confusing information on the “reading”, which prompts the caller to ask many questions for clarity and uses up minutes. Remember, the caller is billed from the moment the call is first answered, despite some callers being put “on hold” while the caller is “being connected”. All the while, soothing music and a caring female voice is telling the caller that “your reading will be honest and truthful by our professional readers”. Then, you wait…and wait…and wait, all the while racking up minutes!

4. Most telephone “psychic readers” are paid between $10.00 and $15.00 an hour and only when they are doing readings on the telephone. While the “psychic” is waiting on a call, they are not being paid. Remember, the caller is paying $1.99 to $3.99 a minute for their reading. Spend 30 minutes on the telephone and you may be paying $59.00 to $120.00 for that time spent with that reader. Who is getting paid? The networks, of course. Let’s not forget the stars for their images as well.

I am giving you some idea about how these companies work and to see what is the real motive for advertising psychic services. The bottom line is that these companies are out to make money so if you are fortunate to get a good reader on the phone, your reading is geared to extract the most money out of your wallet that they possibly can.

In closing, please consider staying away from telemarketing “psychic” companies unless you have a direct referral from a satisfied client who gave you a specific reader to consider for your reading. Otherwise, you a calling a stranger who is primed to take your money and may not have any experience at all. If fact, with my services that I give, my readings run well over the time paid for by the client because I want them to go away from the reading with a sense of satisfaction that their questions were answered.
