Simple Rituals You Can Do to Attract Money and Prosperity – Pt. 1

There are many things we do each and everyday that are ritualistic in nature – like picking up a penny on the ground when we see it or throwing salt over our shoulder – that we take for granted or do without even thinking of it, simply because it is something ‘you just do’ or ‘because Mama did it’.

This is a three part series about what you can do to enhance your money attraction powers so that you will continuously have a steady flow of dollars coming in to take care of your daily needs and the family.

First, you must not think that ‘Money is Bad’ like some folks and televangelists would want you to believe. Money is GOOD! Yes! You must go back to the Bible to 1 Timothy 6:10 which says,”For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” (KJV). Consider that the message is that the LOVE OF MONEY is the ROOT of all EVIL. This gets a little murky here because most people will say, “Hey, if you don’t love money, then you don’t want money and if you want money, you got to love money” - or something like that. Not true. You must see money as a tool – like a hammer – that you pick up and use to exist. You use this ‘tool’ to bash bills, defend against hunger and want, and fix what is broken. Could you live without it? Sure, but using a rock to hammer in some nails would seem a bit harder to do.

Now one of the hardest thing I had to do to get money flowing in my life is to GIVE IT AWAY. I am not just paying bills, but also tithing or giving to philanthropic charities I believe in. Since I do not attend spiritual services in a certain building on a regular basis, I choose to send tithes to Spirit organizations that have inspired me. I also give to charities near and dear to me – like the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Fund (I AM a woman, after all!) and our local Union Gospel Mission, who feed the homeless daily. I take a five dollar bill and bless it with anointing oil (that’s in Part 2), pray over it, saying, “Lord, if everyone could save their lunch money and don’t go get a Value Meal today, and maybe took leftovers from last night for lunch – think of how many people could eat this month.” I then place the money in the envelope and mail it to the organization.

I then TRUST that blessings will flow back to me. The prayer many pray each and every day is this: “Give us this day our daily bread.” – and it is true, you need to focus on the NOW and trust that the blessing of ” mo’ bread” (money, abundance, prosperity) will come each day for each day.

When the Spirits Dance Mambo by Marta Moreno Vega (Three Rivers Press 2004) – This story is set in New York where Puerto Rican immigrants bring the Orishas of Lucumi/Santeria to our attention and how the author will follow her family’s traditions.

Erzulie’s Skirt by Ana-Maurine Lara (Redbone Press 2006) – In this book follow the trials and tribulations of the central characters in this novel, a couple who practice Voudou and other spiritual practice on the island of Hispanola.

The Accidental Santera by Irete Lazo (St Martin’s Press 2008) – A Puerto Rican college professor is drawn to Santeria when her life is in turmoil and returns to the spiritual practices of her family and the early memories of her introduction the the Orishas.

This is part one of a two part series about value – of money. This first offering regards how we view money. enjoy! – Jacqueline

I am perplexed.

As a tarot reader, spiritual consultant and intercessor, I read for, counsel and work with clients of many backgrounds. Most often, the two subjects that come up for people are the issues with love and money. These two subjects win hands down when people are seeking guidance and spiritual products to aid in their resolution. But what about getting to the core of the issue? Today, I write about the value of money.

Money is something we all need. It is a tangible symbol of effort and energy that one applies for their end goal or resolution. In biblical times, farmers, herders and craftsmen brought their wares and flocks to the Temple or other designated trading area within the city closest to their pasture or home. I can envision something akin to our modern day flea market. Farmers would bring fruit, vegetable and gran, ranchers would bring goats, lambs or sheep, cows, horses and donkeys. Craftsmen (and women, too) would bring vessels, pots, blankets, cloth, oils, leather good and more. Each would establish the value of their item and they would barter or discuss what would be considered fair for each participant, make the trade, and depart.

In today’s world, we are not an agricultural society as we were then but a manifacturing socienty, where working in buildings making things has replaced long hours laboring over cultivating and picking produce to get it to market. We now transport food stuffs such as wheat, fruit and vegetables and alos cattle by various means of travel to get it to where it is processed for us to consume. Our labors now are represented by a system of metal circular objects and green paper that carries ‘worth’. It is that paper, coin or account balance on our ATM banking screensthat we are concerned for that we worry about and watch daily.

Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw once wrote, “Lack of money is the root of all evil”, and while some view this statement as a twist on the Bible passage where it is written, “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and placed themselves with many griefs.” (1 Timothy 6:10). This can be said to be true for both statements as it is because we need money to survive that we work, but some choose to consider easier ways to achieve it. Money is a symbol of our own self-worth and our worth in the eyes of others. We reward ourselves with items or experiences that we believe we ‘earned’ as a result of enduring a rough week or another period of time of tough labor, whether mental or physical. We adorn ourselves and others with items that we believe make us ‘worthy’ paricipants in society, and therefore someone to desire or want to be emulated by others.

Today, we carry greenbacks to symbolize what we were paid to labor, or share our talents, expertise or whatever. We do not bring a herd of goats or bushels of apricots with us, as paper money and coins have establish a “worth” for everything. We now go to a centralized place (grocers, shopping mall, small business or big box retailer) and give our paper in exchange for something we value. With modern technology, even those same pieces of green paper that carry worth or wealth is replaced with a piece of plastic that have encoding embedded in them in the form of ATM or credit cards. We can now log into the computer to see what our ‘worth balance’ is daily, and can be rated by an entity such as a bank on our ‘worthiness’ with a number score. But what are we really seeking when we seek ‘worthiness’ or wealth in numbers?

Wealth or having wealth is a state of mind. Many people who are wealthy are like to elderly woman who saved all her life and invested her money, only to grant a Central California Salvation Army over a million dollars at her passing. She certainly had money to burn, yet chose to own a home, drive a modest car and live simply. She had clothing, food and even ‘splurged’ once for a vacation and cable television. She was satisfied with what she owned and how she lived. There was something in her that was appeased and she was spiritually connected to life and her situation. She did not have to live lavishly but she has all things comforting to her when she needed it. She has a wealth consciousness that she lived simply but had all the comforts of home.

Develop your wealth consciousness without influence by the masses. What are you trying to show the world and why does it matter to you that “they” (the collect other humans you ineract with daily) accept or rate you in accordance to their standards of ‘worthiness’ or ‘wealth’? Live your life by what you deem necessary for you to trade your greenback for, and consume wisely, as our land is being covered by items of validation that are no longer usable or needed. You will validate yourself more and live in a more spiritual place within your home knowing that items that validate you are truly something that matters.

Botanicas, small shops with curios, oils, candles and more that serve the predominately Latino communities, exist in almost any major metropolitan community. These business offer spiritual counseling, tarot card readings or other types of divination and items not normally found on the shelves of other five and-dime or variety store shelves. These shops mainly cater to the Latin American cultures, but are also visited by a large African-American and Caucasian populace who practice forms of magickal practices as their belief system.

Candles to burn for all kinds of situations

There are mainly two types of botanicas; one catering to a strong following to the Carribean religious beliefs such as Santeria, Lucumi, Voodou and Obeah and the Mexican influenced Brujeria. Many bontanicas will carry items of both variations as people move around the country, but in largely Mexican polated areas such ad Texas and through the Southwest, you will find more of the brujeria influence than Miami, which has a large Cuban population, and would be more inclined to carry items related to Santeria.

A Mexican or brujeria based botanica will offer many items that you will see also in a Carribean culture botanica as both cultures and their lands were under Spanish or French rule and therefore have a heavy Catholic influence. The difference is that while a Mexican botanica will have many statues, prayer cards and chromographs of Catholic Saints, the botanica that serves the Carribean belief systems will also carry statues and images of other Gods and Goddesses from Africa that have been syncronized into the Catholic belief system.

Candle shops, which mainly are located in areas of large African American populations, may or may not carry all the same items that botanicas may have because their belief practices are connected with hoodoo, conjure and folk remedies and cures from the Southern United States.

What a year 2011 has been for you and for me.

We all have experienced the effects of gain and loss, change, change and more change.

Well, get ready for even more change in 2012.

In the past few weeks, I have been getting that “gut feeling” we all have that this year 2012 coming up will be ruled by the Yoruba Goddess of the River and the sweet waters, Ochun. Oshun, as her name is sometimes spelled and in Brazil, Oxum, is a yellow robed Deity and is the one who brings money, prosperity, abundance, sexuality – all the things that make life “sweet”. I am sure you will agree that this is something that we all could handle about right now – a little more sweetness to our lives – in any form.

An altar to her might include a jar of honey (her favorite offering), yellow sunflowers, but sometimes Latinos place a flower called “chabellas” or carnations (yellow, of course) in vases surrounding her Catholic image, the Virgin of Charity, La Caridad de Cobre, a patron Saint of Cuba. Brass is her color and the number “5″ is associated with her.

Lets find out in two days what the Ifa readings our of Cuba and Venezuela will say. If I am right, I will buy a large statue of La Caridad and build a shrine to her in my reading room. Maferefun!
